How I left money on the table

Hey ya’ll 👋🏼

Yes I’m still here. I took a break because simply put, sometimes life be lifin’. When I mean I took a break from anything to do with my templates business, I really mean it. I did not touch it at all. However, I was reviewing my sales stats. I watched my Etsy sales plummet by 50%. I didn’t do anything. So fast forward three months later, I noticed there were three key reasons why I stopped and my sales plummeted. And now I wonder, how many opportunities did I miss or better yet, how much money did I leave on the table. Here's the three reasons:

1. Missed Opportunity: Underutilizing Automation Systems

Modern technology offers a plethora of tools designed to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and ultimately boost profitability. However, even with these tools at our disposal, it's easy to fall into the trap of underutilization. In my case, that was me....underutilization to not at allllllll. I failed to utilize the automation systems installed onto my website that could have automated my business while I took my break. Whether it was automating repetitive tasks, scheduling social media posts, or scheduling newsletter content to be sent to my email base each month, I simply didn't do it. So not only did I waste money by not utilizing the systems installed on my website but, I failed to continuously nurture my email base with content in order to move them through my sales funnel. By not fully embracing these systems, I inadvertently left money on the table.

2. The Motivation Gap

Entrepreneurship is a journey that demands unwavering determination and commitment. Yet, there are moments when our motivation wanes… like mines did. As a result, my business encountered a phase where I didn’t feel like marketing content or even creating it to market. I went from grinding for 6-months to develop templates, understanding how Etsy works and building a website, to my excitement dwindling. Rather than pushing through this motivational slump, I allowed myself to succumb to lack of enthusiasm. Consequently, I missed out on seizing new opportunities, forging strategic partnerships, or even expanding my market reach. Looking back, I now realize that sustaining motivation during tough times is essential for driving growth and maximizing profits. Having the lack of motivation to push forward can happen. Hence why, point #1 is important. Automating the business will help with showing up online consistently because the content is already scheduled.

3. Balancing Personal Time

While pursuing entrepreneurial success, it's crucial to strike a balance between work and personal life. However, life was lifin’ . I focused on top projects at my 9-5 along with some professional development. Additionally, I wanted to focus on having fun with my son. So the minute I had downtime to myself, I did not want to do anything but Netflix and chill. I also focused on me. I continued my early morning workouts and started getting monthly massages to help destress. While family time is invaluable and self-care is essential, excessively focusing on these aspects can lead to missed business opportunities. Again, this goes back to point #1. Automating a business as much as possible keeps the engine going to avoid leaving money on the table.

As entrepreneurs, we are bound to encounter a myriad of challenges and choices. Reflecting on my journey, I now understand that fully embracing automation systems and striking a balanced approach to personal and professional life is essential for capitalizing on opportunities and maximizing profits. While the past cannot be changed, these lessons serve as a reminder for both myself and fellow entrepreneurs to seize every chance to grow and prosper in the dynamic world of business. Let my experiences be a source of inspiration to anyone seeking to avoid leaving money on the table.
